The overall objective of the PISC programme is the assessment of procedures and techniques used in the inspection of pressure components using non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques. In this paper the results of the first two phases of PISC are presented, together with the status of the third phase, in relation to the following actions: (i) real contaminated structures; (ii) full scale vessel tests; (iii) nozzles and dissimilar metal welds; (iv) austenitic steel testing; (v) steam generator tubes' testing; (vi) mathematical modelling on NDE; (vii) human reliability studies; (viii) support to code and standard organisations.
