Abstract

The evaluation of NDE round robin tests (RRT) trials or of capability and reliability exercises has to be organised carefully. A condition is that all flaws (intended or not intended) are known precisely in terms of existence, position, size and characteristics. The quality of this data set conditions the validity of the RRT results' evaluation. The following requirements have been identified for the evaluation: (i) the full destructive examination or full certification of flaws used for the exercise; (ii) the identification or definition of parameters and criteria to be used for the evaluation, being linked with industrial reality or with the physics of the NDT techniques; (iii) an evaluation procedure based on engineering attitude aiming at identification of trends; (iv) a rigorous statistical treatment when possible; (v) the presentation of results in a simple and illustrative way. The rules developed by the PISC management board for the evaluation of results are described in this paper.
