Abstract

The purpose of this research was to integrate the use of remotely sensed data in geographical information systems (GIS) for use in environmental management in local areas or smaller administrative units of the European Community. In such units the funds available may be small and the staff may have hardly any training in remote sensing and the application of GIS. The PC_IMega and IM-X software packages were developed with the intention of providing a tool for both training, self-education and application. A description of the software is presented in this paper in terms of its hardware requirements and capabilities.
