Abstract

The TAME facility has been installed at the Joint Research Centre for the study of problems related to the accurate mass and volume determination of liquids used at nuclear materials processing installations. The main objectives of TAME are: (i) development and performance assessment of in-tank measurement methods; (ii) test and assessment of homogenisation, sampling, measurement and data evaluation procedures; (iii) calibration of measurement systems; (iv) training of inspectors and plant operators in the application of mass determination techniques and procedures. The principal components of TAME are described, together with the experimental set-up and layout of the facility. The current status of the facility is presented and the main areas of investigation are listed.
