The simulated advanced storage area in LaSCo will provide the opportunity not only to study and demonstrate the application of containment and surveillance (C/S) systems based on different combinations of new and traditional C/S devices, but also to perform long-term testing of these devices. Different scenarios for the application of C/S are envisaged, including the control at the level of individual nuclear material containers of storage units and areas. Defining the tasks or functions of each C/S device in a particular situation leads to the development of a performance profile, on the basis of which a device or combination of devices may be selected. This paper describes the activities related to the study of C/S devices for storage areas.
