Prospects for neutron probes in the 21st century
In this paper the economic concepts of supply and demand are applied in an attempt to analyse the future prospects for neutron research. The most severe problem is the supply of neutrons. It is debatable whether the demand will be sufficient to overcome the considerable political and financial problems associated with providing the supply. It is suggested that a different mode of operation may be necessary in neutron research, especially with reactor-based sources.
