A versatile computer program for improving the precision of quantitative electron probe microanalysis results
The correction program, written in QuickBASIC, is based on the quadrilateral model for X-ray absorption developed by Scott and Love. Tests of the program show that the RMS errors for the medium and heavy elements are 3.0 - 3.4 % and 1.9 % respectively. For the light elements (Z less than 10) the RMS error is less than 6 % if Bastin's absorption coefficients are used. Unlike most other methods a tilt factor is built in so that quantitative analysis can be performed on inclined specimens. A unique feature of the program is a self-test module consisting of EPMA data sets.
