In a magnetic divertor, conditions of high recycling can induce a reversal of the usual plasma flow, with a consequent reinforcement of thermal forces potentially leading to damaging contamination of the core. This report investigates steady state divertor flow reversal for conditions relevant to ITER. The key role of redistribution of recycling sources across magnetic surfaces is revealed, and concomitant amplification of cross-field ion diffusion in the SOL is also examined.
