  • First in-field experiences with "COMPUCEA", a portable assay system for the combined determination of uranium concentration and 235U abundance in uranium solutions by NDA methods

The COMbined Product-Uranium Concentration and Enrichment Assay system COMPUCEA for uranium solutions consists of two parts: a compact K-edge uranium densitometer and a HPGe well detector for the 235U-abundance assay. The system is primarily designed for use by inspectors of the Euratom Safeguards Directorate, providing NDA methods for verification measurements on uranium product solutions in reprocessing plants. Other applications are possible provided the material is pure uranium and is presented in solution to the assay system. A portable version and a transportable desk version of COMPUCEA have been built. The latter is equipped with a small glovebox for sample handling. The report describes the equipment, the calibration, the stability tests and the results of the first in-field assays with COMPUCEA.
