Alfvénic turbulence driven by energetic alpha particles
A discussion of linear drive and damping mechanisms on shear Alfvén waves in hot, reactor-relevant plasmas is presented. According to whether equilibrium geometry, kinetic effects, or both are important in determining the mode structure, different branches of Alfvén waves may exist: TAE, KAW and KTAE, respectively. The existence of open problems, as the necessity of non-perturbative calculations, is also emphasised.
