The main purpose of this workshop was to review the current status of passive neutron assay and make recommendations for further development efforts. Two basic issues were on the agenda: (i) the evaluation of the application and performance of the well established shift register based instruments; (ii) the evaluation and future prospective of the new generation of passive neutron instruments, based on neutron multiplicity analysis. A third issue discussed was gamma spectrometry, since plutonium NDA is frequently also affected by considerable error components from high resolution gamma spectrometry.
