HFR's irradiation support to Light Water Reactor (LWR) technology concentrates mainly on the investigation of fuel rod behaviour (UO(2) and mixed oxide (MOX)). Materials research programmes and component neutron and gamma irradiation testing projects are also performed. With three decades of multi-disciplinary research experience at the HFR, a wide range of modular designed capsule-type irradiation devices, providing versatile and tailor-made test capabilities, along with the well equipped Petten hot cells for pre- and post-irradiation examination (PIE), form together a solid basis for R&D support related to the next generation of LWRs. The objective of this contribution is to give a survey of the various irradiation devices and associated services available at the HFR for future irradiation support of R&D programmes of the next generation LWRs.
