Abstract

Three major configurations of the first wall of a tokamak are considered: the limiter, the axisymmetric divertor and the ergodic divertor. Sophisticated analysis is required to determine the optimum arrangement of the material structure so that it matches the plasma pattern and allows access for and management of neutrals, such as pumping, charge-exchange and ionisation sources.
