The purpose of the workshop was to bring together those engaged in the determination of human exposure to ionising radiation, and its control and consequences. An introductory paper was given on the causes and consequences of human exposure to ionising radiation, and topics covered in subsequent sessions included: (i) occupational exposure from nuclear power; (ii) patient exposure in medicine; (iii) control of dose distributions; (iv) epidemiological estimates of risk. A summary of the round table discussions is also given.
