Improved raw data treatment and error estimation for neutron coincidence measurements
A realistic estimate of the measurement uncertainties is necessary for effective and efficient safeguards procedures. For certain instrument configurations there are very large discrepancies between estimated and measured uncertainties. The statistics of the measurement process and its dependence on the basic variables were studied with a custom designed simulation code and the main parts of the error model were reviewed. In agreement with experiments, the new error estimates for the routine measurements on PuO(2) powder cans lead to a standard deviation for the Pu mass of fractions of a percent, which is close to that from DA methods.
