Inductively coupled plasma mass-spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been used to determine radioactive nuclides in different matrices with an accuracy of 0.5 to 10 %. Instruments adapted to the analysis of radioactive samples were applied for the determination of fissile material in highly active liquid waste and in dissolved spent fuel residues of reprocessing. For highly radioactive solids the laser ablation technique was used. Examples are described and the results compared with other techniques such as TIMS.
