This paper presents some of the first results from a study undertaken at GRETh for the JOULE 1 Extension programme. The object of this part of the work is to assess and, where necessary, extend particulate fouling models to allow their application to extended surface configurations. To provide a test facility, the OSCAR loop at GRETh has been adapted and used to study particulate fouling under controlled conditions on a commercial plate heat exchanger.
