The stellar neutron capture rate of the s-process monitor 138Ba
High resolution 138Ba(n, gamma) measurements were carried out at GELINA and the capture areas of 138 resonances in the range 0.5 - 200 keV were determined. From these values the variation of the Maxwellian-averaged cross-section was calculated for temperatures from 5 to 100 keV. With these new data, meteoritic s-process Ba could be interpreted as the result of s-process nucleosynthesis taking place at kT = 12 keV, the ignition temperature of the 13C(alpha, n) reaction.
