The modified 9Cr-1Mo steel is identified as T 91 and P 91 in two of the ASTM standards. Nevertheless, the available data on the influence of production parameters and the methods of processing of the steel to pipe on its properties are not sufficient for a comprehensive assessment. Moreover, additional experimental data are needed to estimate the long-term creep rupture values. The objective of this research project was to fill these gaps. The present report summarises the results of work in the areas of: (i) production cast; (ii) hot workability as determined by the Gleeble test; (iii) pipe manufacture; (iv) effect of heat treatment; (v) mechanical properties of base material; (vi) weldments; (vii) mechanical properties of weldments; (viii) corrosion behaviour.
