As a condition of the checking and quality control of buildings projects on the use of solar thermal energy, the ISEI/NNE Solar Laboratory of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Ispra has developed and proposed a system for the remote reading of the main heat-energy parameters, useful in the determination and evaluation of the projects' heat energy balance. The tele-monitoring system consists of a data acquisition system (DAS) and a project-PC with data bank, connected to the public telephone network by a modem, both programmed for the acquisition, processing and transmission of data. The procedure for tele-monitoring presented here, employs a common approach to the electronic formatting, local storage and transfer of the data which are obtained when monitoring the performance of passive solar building systems. Successful data transfers have been made on this system, including remote interrogation from several international locations, to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.
