Abstract

The neutral solution process enables the controlled corrosion of optical borosilicate glasses in nearly neutral solution. Difficulties encountered in process control can be improved decisively by a combination of three measures: (i) the development of a high speed in situ spectrometer allowing the recording of up to two spectra ranging from 400 to 1500 nm within 1 second; (ii) the drastic modification of the process technique; (iii) the introduction of a new construction material.
