Resistivity measurements of americium metal under pressure up to 25 GPa are presented. The superconducting transition temperature (T(c)) is shown to increase significantly with pressure and reaches a maximum of 2.3 K at around 6 GPa. The normal state resistivity and the T(c)(P) curve show several anomalies which may be related to the structural phase transitions known to occur under pressure. These results should improve knowledge of the phase diagram of americium.
