This paper discusses the magnetic character of NpPt(3) and compares it to UPt(3). A magnetic phase diagram deduced from magnetoresistance measurements is proposed. It is shown that an antiferromagnetic ordering develops below T(N) = 30 K and that a transition towards another antiferromagnetic state occurs around 20 K. Susceptibility and magnetisation measurements on a polycrystalline sample confirm this phase diagram. Powder neutron diffraction experiments were also performed and the results for the various temperature phases are presented.
