Preparation and structural study of new actinide ternary intermetallic compounds An(2)T(2)X (An = U,Np X = In,Sn T = Co,Ir,Ni,Pd,Pt,Rh)
The structural results are presented for a new large family of isostructural compounds with the general formula An(2)T(2)X (An = U,Np X = In,Sn T = Co,Ir,Ni,Pd,Pt,Rh). The compounds were synthesised by arc melting of stoichiometric amounts of metals, under Ar atmosphere. All attempts to synthesise Np(2)Ir(2)Sn failed, and X-rays show the presence of an important amount of NpIrSn. A metallography test showed that other compounds are formed congruently, unlike U(2)Co(2)Al, the only An(2)T(2)X compound described before this work.
