Abstract

Mössbauer and magnetic measurements were performed on NpTAl compounds with a ZrNiAl structure. The compound NpNiGa pointed to the influence of a p element. The isomer shift was compared with other systematics. The asymmetry parameter was close to unity for all the compounds except NpCoAl and NpPtAl. The largest quadrupole interactions were found with a transition metal from the 3d row. These quadrupole interactions were positive. The opposite was found with 4d and 5d metals. Results show that all the compounds are magnetic at 4.2 K. The magnetic spectra are complex and should be interpreted with magnetic modulated structures. All compounds have an antiferromagnetic order. This systematic reveals the particular isomer shift and magnetic behaviour of NpIrAl.
