A number of numerical codes have been run to interpret the experimental observations at the TEXTOR tokamak, with special emphasis on the plasma edge. This paper reports on some important results of the SOLXY code, one of the most advanced codes for TEXTOR application. After a brief discussion of the specification of the model (equations, integration domain, boundary conditions), the report outlines the physical origin of specific results concerning poloidal asymmetries in the plasma profiles, non-ambipolarity, changes due to magnetic field reversal and the appearance of a global circulation layer with the concomitant electric field structure. Problems concerning biasing and interchange instabilities are also presented.
