Abstract

PAN is an important intermediate for storage and transport of NO(2); it is also a good indicator of photochemical activity in the troposphere. Daily and seasonal variations of PAN are well correlated to variations of sun irradiation. The maximum daily level of PAN, measured at Ispra, is found in the afternoon (15 to 17 CET) showing that migration by diffusion and transport, of PAN and/or its precursors, is an important factor controlling local levels of PAN.
