Abstract

One of the aims of the JRC MARS project is to monitor vegetation using AVHRR images. The software package SPACE pre-processes geometrically and radiometrically raw AVHRR images and outputs daily geocoded mosaics of Europe. A second package, SCAN, extracts parameters, in particular NDVI values, from the daily mosaics of Europe and outputs NDVI time series and map representation of the NDVI evolution. This presentation focuses on the SCAN software and describes the problems encountered and the proposed solutions to monitor vegetation, using NDVI time series, in an operational environment.
