Environment Institute : Annual Report 1992
This report summarises the major achievements in projects developed by the Environment Institute of the Joint Research Centre in 1992, the first year of the three year Specific Research programme. Activity has been focused on the Environmental Protection programme which included projects concerning air and water pollution, indoor air pollution, environmental chemicals, chemical waste, and food and drug analysis. The contribution to the subprogramme Working Environment has concerned a number of issues relating to chemical agents in a working environment. One section of the report is dedicated to progress made in the activities performed as scientific and technical support to various Commission Services. For the most part this involved Directorate General XI (Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil Protection) in the areas of chemicals, air and water pollution, chemical waste, radioactive environmental monitoring (REM) and the validation of toxicity testing methods not involving the use of animals. The main achievements in exploratory research, within the framework of EUREKA projects as well as in contractual work for third parties, are also presented. The data on the Institute's structure and its human and financial resources complement the report and assist in assessing the value of the Institute's contribution to the implementation of EC research policy.
