Abstract

The Scientific Committee for Food's mandate has been to advise on the establishment of European recommended dietary allowances for a number of purposes, including nutrition labelling and Community programmes on research and nutrition, and to make recommendations. This report deals with nutrient and energy intakes for the European Community (opinion expressed on 11 December 1992). Energy recommendations, acceptable ranges of intakes, high levels of nutrient intakes, age groups and bioavailability are all discussed. Recommendations are given and values are proposed for each of the nutrients presented.
