What the European Chemicals Bureau is doing with the HEDSET data
The principal task of the European Chemicals Bureau (ECB) is to carry out and coordinate scientific and technical work for the implementation of European Community legislation regarding control of chemicals. Currently the ECB is operating the database EUCLID (EUropean ChemicaLs Information Database), preparing the implementation of an automated priority setting procedure and assisting in the preparation of guidance documents for the forthcoming Risk Assessment Directive for existing substances. A presentation is given in this paper on the role of the ECB concerning data collection and the initial use of data. The steps taken from the receipt of a HEDSET diskette by the Joint Research Centre in Ispra to the production of an initial draft priority list are given, as well as steps to be taken for the dissemination of EUCLID to the member states and the general public.
