Chemistry in the atmosphere : A strategy for European research into global environmental issuesFunded under: FP3-ENV 1C
The global environmental problems currently causing most concern are climate change and depletion of the ozone layer. Atmospheric chemistry is central to these problems, as well as to regional problems such as acid deposition and urban pollution. This document discusses uncertainties in the understanding of: (i) stratospheric ozone depletion over Europe; (ii) the current oxidising capacity of the atmosphere and how this capacity might change; (iii) natural and man-made aerosols and their effects on global climate; (iv) the importance of natural emissions.
