This report contains two papers presented at the IAEA Technical Committee meeting on pellet injection held in Naka, Japan in May 1993. The first paper describes the injection of solid D(2) pellets into the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU). The injector performance is compared with simulation codes, and the experimental results of pellet-plasma interaction in ohmic discharges are reported. The results of cryogenic experiments carried out with the high-speed multi-shot pellet injector for FTU are also presented. The second paper reports on a high-speed repetitive pellet injector prototype for magnetic confinement fusion research. An experiment has begun with the objective of demonstrating a repeating pellet injector capable of delivering D(2) ice pellets at rates around 1 Hz, using an existing extruder and a two-stage gun. The results of numerical simulations and preliminary tests on the two devices are described.
