Control of limited and low nitrogen content in non-alloyed and alloyed steel melts
Project ID: 7210-CB/107Funded under: ECSC-STEELRES 7C
This cooperative research of the VDEh has investigated: (i) the extent to which nitrogen content can be reduced during production and treatment of hot metal; (ii) the existing methods for lowering the nitrogen content during the converter process; (iii) the way in which the low nitrogen content achieved in this way can be maintained at this level during the process sequence. This research established the extent to which these measures allow the current processes for removing nitrogen from steel melts to be supplemented by stirring gas and vacuum treatments. At the same time, the conditions for nitrogen control in high-alloy Cr-Ni steels have also been studied.
