Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Within the framework of the Community's biotechnology research programmes, groups of contractors were brought together to constitute ELWWs, with a view to facilitating the rapid circulation and exchange of information, data and materials, and increasing mobility among research staff. The purpose of this brochure is to illustrate the work of one such ELWW in the molecular biology of the soft rot disease (Erwinia). A study of the synthesis, regulation and export of extracellular enzymes in Erwinia was carried out. The participating research teams and the subsequent distribution of work is presented, and the progress made during the research period, in relation to pectinolysis, cellulolysis, secretion and iron assimilation, is reported. Finally, the benefits and examples of this cooperation are discussed.
