Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Within the framework of the Community's biotechnology research programmes, groups of contractors were brought together to constitute ELWWs, with a view to facilitating the rapid circulation and exchange of information, data and materials, and increasing mobility among research staff. The purpose of this brochure is to illustrate the work of one such ELWW in the field of biotechnology of filamentous fungi. The significance of filamentous fungi is discussed and the aims and objectives of the project are outlined. The areas of research include: (i) the development of gene transfer systems; (ii) the heterologous expression of foreign proteins; (iii) the synthesis of secondary metabolites. A list of participants and a report on progress made during the research period are also presented. Finally, benefits and examples of cooperation in this project are described.
