The Biotechnology Action Programme (BAP) included research aimed at studying the problem of the release of genetically modified micro-organisms, plants and recombinant vaccines, with the objective of ensuring their safety in use and to assessing possible risks. This report contains abstracts of 24 oral papers and 56 posters presented at a sectoral meeting on risk assessment in biotechnology held in Padova in December 1990. Issues discussed include gene transfer, field experiments, gene dispersal and the use of genetically modified viruses.
