Biotechnology Action Programme (1985-1989) : Training activitiesFunded under: FP1-BAP
In this final report of training activities, two areas are reviewed: training through research and summer workshops. Research periods ranged from 6 to 24 months and included opportunities for both junior workers with limited experience and more senior scientists. The work had to be undertaken in host laboratories of recognised scientific standing in countries other than those of the trainees. Detailed statistics showing the main features of such activities are provided in this report, and the opinions of both the trainees and their scientific supervisors on the scheme are outlined. Workshops and summer schools held in Greece, Spain and Portugal, concentrated on the main features and techniques of molecular biology and genetic engineering. Their purpose was to support the development of biotechnology in these countries by creating a network of contacts between the participants. The budget allocated for this scheme is described and a summary of the workshops themselves is provided.
