Sequencing the yeast genome : The European effortFunded under: FP2-BRIDGE
The choice of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae for use in this project is explained, with reference to the biological, historical and scientific arguments in its favour. Two methods of implementing systematic sequencing are described, one of which is the network approach used in this study. The pilot phase of the project, which involved the sequencing of the chromosome III, is reported and future activities in this field of research are predicted. A table of genome research projects or programmes supported by the European Community is provided and those involved with the BAP yeast chromosome III sequencing network are listed.
