Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In biotechnology research, activities are conducted via two different types of projects: T-projects and N-projects. T-projects, larger targeted projects, are aimed at bottlenecks resulting from structural or scale constraints. This report is concerned with a T-project whose aims are to develop controlled expression in lactic acid bacteria and produce strains meeting particular requirements of the food industry, with special attention given to safety aspects of engineered strains. The background and objectives of such targeted projects are described and the aims and implementation of this particular T-project are outlined. The structure and management of the project are described and the concept of interaction with other Community programmes is discussed.
