This publication contains the proceedings of the second BRIDGE meeting on research into the sequencing of the yeast genome. Since the publication of the complete sequence of chromosome III in May 1992, several groups around the world have made use of up-to-date informatics tools to scrutinise the sequence, with a view to extracting as much biological information as possible. Such approaches are discussed, together with the prospects of a centralised EC action to identify functions associated with the new genes uncovered in the BAP systematic sequencing exercise. The following subject areas are covered: (i) chromosome II sequencing; (ii) chromosome XI sequencing; (iii) S. cerevisiae chromosomes; (iv) data collection and evaluation; (v) genes and patents.
