The Community's research and development programme on decommissioning of nuclear installations : Fourth annual progress report 1988Funded under: FP1-DECOM 2C
This is the fourth annual progress report on the European Community's programme (1984-88) of research on the decommissioning of nuclear installations. It shows the status of the programme at 31 December 1988. The objectives, scope and work programme of the 72 research contracts concluded are described, as well as the progress of work achieved and the results obtained in 1988. The projects were concerned with the following research areas: (i) long-term integrity of buildings and systems; (ii) decontamination for decommissioning purposes; (iii) dismantling techniques; (iv) the treatment of specific waste materials: steel, concrete and graphite; (v) large transport containers for radioactive waste; (vi) estimation of the quantities of wastes arising from the decommissioning of nuclear installations; (vii) the influence of installation design features on decommissioning. The testing of new techniques under real conditions is described and a list of publications relating to the programme is also provided.
