This report is from the second Bad Honnef joint contractors' meeting held in 1993. The objectives of the meeting were to identify what is new and/or needed in radiation effects research and to assess the progress made in each sector since 1991. The programme of the meeting is outlined and the remainder of the report is divided into four sections covering the following work areas: (i) biophysics and molecular damage; (ii) DNA repair, cytogenetics and mutation; (iii) cell transformation and animal carcinogenesis; (iv) epidemiology and cancer modelling.
