V1022: Real-time UTC : Realisation of a real-time Urban Traffic Control systemFunded under: FP2-DRIVE 1
The project aims at the study, development and testing of a real-time urban traffic control system, the main feature of which is the capacity to optimise traffic regulation continuously, using the PRODYN algorithm. The system automatically adjusts to changes in traffic demand. PRODYN is improved by introducing the concepts of a controller stage enabling it to adapt to different pedestrian signal control philosophies, and of maximum red after the indication of safe-phase pedestrian crossing which takes into account both pedestrians and priority vehicles. The algorithm affords savings in travel time of up to 9 %. The successful realisation of a central surveillance and maintenance unit was achieved.
