Abstract

This project (VAMOS) provides recommendations and specifications for sign systems designed to provide drivers with dynamic traffic messages and for the integration of those systems into the European RTE. Five application fields are identified: motorway section; interaction with other roads; road network; urban route choice; and rural signalling and warning. Information, processing and general technical requirements for implementing the system architectures and concepts are analysed and reported for these fields. A systematic analysis of requirements for a modular, hierarchical VMS system architecture is made, and recommendations are given for VMS location, use and composition of text messages, pictograms and design features.
