Abstract

The project aims to show the feasibility of an RTI system based on cellular radio applying both to applications and communication systems, and to establish a test site for testing and demonstrating a SOCRATES system (from traffic control centre to in-vehicle equipment). Project task areas are traffic modelling and management, communications, system design, in-car equipment, and test site. The feasibility of the RTI system is successfully shown, justifying the SOCRATES concept for widespread RTI systems. The concept is technically sound and potentially commercially viable, and will enhance progress towards a SOCRATES-based pan-European integrated RTI system.
