Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Abstract

The main aim of the project is the development of an automatic incident detection system for motorway and urban network application, based on the application of computer vision techniques. Other objectives are identification and production of standard classification of incident types, development of techniques to combine computer vision and relevant data, and design of a man-machine interface. Within the application area of traffic surveillance and incident detection, several categories of incident and traffic conditions are addressed: incidents directly found and identified in the scene, those detectable via their effects on traffic flow, those found as normal events affecting traffic flow behaviour, and level of service.
