Abstract

The project is responsible for the design and development of standard equipment for pan-European application, for the non-stop automatic debiting of vehicles and for other related applications which require two-way data communications between a roadside beacon and a transponder in a vehicle moving at speeds of up to 160 km/h in both single-lane and unrestricted multi-lane environments. The heart of the system is a reliable high-capacity, short-range microwave communications-link, having the capability of interfacing with other peripheral equipment in the vehicle to support any number of other RTI applications. Two important areas chosen for demonstration tests are automatic tolling and parking control/pricing.
