V1031: An intelligent traffic system for vulnerable road usersFunded under: FP2-DRIVE 1
The project aims to provide a set of tools for the creation of traffic systems that enhance the safety and mobility of pedestrians and cyclists, who are designated as vulnerable road users (VRUs). This aim is achieved in two ways; by developing a set of models of the traffic systems incorporating VRUs as an integral part, the models being built on existing models of the traffic system and incorporating information on VRU route choice criteria, and by evaluating and installing a number of RTI applications in signalling and juction control. The models can be used as tools to enable users to predict the effect of certain planning decisions upon the safety and vulnerability of VRUs.
