Abstract

The project aims to develop guidelines on the various aspects of field trials (FTs), within DRIVE and in RTI development and evaluation. Full scale FTs are expected to play a major role in future European actions dealing with R&D in the RTI area. To extract from FTs a correct appreciation of the systems tested, it is important that the FT is correctly situated within the evaluation process, criteria of effectiveness can be accurately measured, characteristics of the test site are coherent with the level of FT, sample size calculations have been correctly conducted, means for measurements of the criteria of response are available, administrative and management problems are not obstacles, and human and financial resources are available.
